1,,,Jf1 2.c3! Je3#

1.e3 Kf5 2.exd2 e4#

2x2 symmetrical phases in tempo position. If black needn't move, white could have mated him in many ways. (JL)

886 has in 2 solutions the same theme as ...

887 Pat a Mat 30 - September 2000

Comment on original for solving:
... 887 in 3 solutions.

Solution:

1.Dc3 Db6! (Dc5?, Dxe5?) 2.Dg3 Dd8#
1.Vd3 Dc5! (Dxe5?, Db6?) 2.Vg3 De7#
1.Va3 Dxe5! (Db6?, Dc5?) 2.Vg3 Df6#

Two of three first white moves are cyclically wrong, but it isn't dual avoidance as black moves have positive motive allowing good white continuations instead of negative dual avoidance motives. (JL)

3.1.1.1

Jozef Lozek

888 Pat a Mat 30 - September 2000

Comment on original for solving:
Jozef tries 3 solutions too, successfully.

Solution:

1.Sxf4 bxc5 2.Sb8 Dxb8#
1.Jexf4 Dd2 2.Jd3 Dc3#
1.Jhxf4 Dh8 2.Dxb2+ Dxb2#

3 captures at f4 have different motivations (line clearance, the only way to d3, the only square for S withdrawal without negative motive respectively) and the rest is little unified, despite this I have good feeling. (JL)
