1...Qxe5 2.Rd3# C
1...Sc3 2.Re4# A

Judge: "Threat form of Lacny theme with use of known elements but in a very good construction. Considering the age *) and experience of author as well as quality of other compositions, without any doubts the best work in tourney (not considering extraordinary prize). "

*) 20 years in tourney year (editor)

#2 (11+8)

Alexandr Mocalkin
Ivan Garaj

2nd Prize Praca 1995

1.Qe8? A th. 2.Qxc6#
1...Qxe3 2.Bc5# C

1...Qxe3 2.Qe8# A
1...fxe3 2.Bxf5# B

Judge: "Salazar (reversal of key and mate) and le Grand (reciprocal threat paradox) themes united by common third phase is rather good performance. But construction didn't satisfy me, it could be surely improved."

#2 (12+7)

Emil Klemanic
3rd Prize Praca 1995

1...Rg~ 2.Qf5#
1...Rgf4! 2.Rfe6#

1.Qf3? th. 2.Qf5#, Rfe6#
1...Ref4 2.Rxd5#
1...Rgf4!

1.Qxd3! th. 2.Rxd5#
1...Re~ 2.Qf5#
1...Ref4! 2.Rfe6#

Judge: "Interesting combination of themes is reached by means of well known mechanism. The novelty lies in the transformation of double threat to change of 2 mates and in unusual reciprocal threat theme, in which there is thematical double threat. Paradox is rather weakened by the fact that defence defending 2 threats (1...Ref4) allows as variation mate only one of them."

#2 (7+12)

Viktor Melnicenko
Valerij Sansin

4th Prize Praca 1995

1.Qe6? A th. 2.Rxf4#
1...Bxd2 2.exf6# B
1...Rxf5 2.Qd5# C
1...Bxe2!

1.exf6? B th. 2.Qd5# C
1...Bxd2 2.Qe6# A
1...Rxf5 2.Re6#
1...Be5!

1.g4! th. 2.Qd5# C
1...Bxd2 2.Qd4#
1...Rxf5 2.Qxf5#

Judge: "Threat paradox (Dombrovskis effect) in combination with Salazar theme leads to unknown, but not very interesting cyclic key-threat theme. In on phase are A, B, C key and 2 variation mates, in second phase they are mate, key and threat."

#2 (14+9)

Peter Gvozdjak
Extraordinary Prize Praca 1995

1.Kxd7? th. 2.Sed3# A
1...Ke3 2.Sxg4# B
1...Se4 2.Se6# C
1...Rxc5 2.Sf3# D
1...Kxc5 2.Sf5# E
1...Be4!

1.g6! th. 2.Sxg4# B
1...Ke3 2.Se6# C
1...Se4 2.Sf3# D
1...Rxc5 2.Sf5# E
1...Kxc5 2.Sed3# A

Judge: "Incredible performance! Threat Lacny with 5 thematical elements without use of twin. But with promoted force: wQ, wR, wS, bB, 2 wB. Mechanism is very unified and both phases are thematically rarely well balanced."
