1.Jexd3 Jf3 2.Ke4 Sc6#

317 Pat a Mat 24 - April 1999

Comment on original for solving:
317 contains, beside other things, the theme of WCCT, but in threemove helpmate.

Solution:
1.Sxh6 J4xf5 2.Sf8 Jd4 (Jd6?) 3.Sb4 Jb5#

1.Sxh4 J6xf5 2.Sf2 Je7 (Je3?) 3.Sd4 Jd5#

No deep strategy, only application of last WCCT theme on threemove helpmate with Zilahi theme.

318 Pat a Mat 24 - April 1999

Comment on original for solving:
Three authors work with (what else than) three thematical variations - beware of try, it has delicate refutation.

Solution:
1.Df7? th. 2.Vb6+ A, Jxb4+ B, cxd8J+ C, 1...Je5 a, Se6 b, Je7 c 2. ABC, 1...Va2!

1.e6! hr. 2.ABC, 1...abc 2.BCA.
Synthesis of Lacny and Fleck themes with really elegant, minimalistic refutation.

319 Pat a Mat 24 - April 1999

Comment on original for solving:
You could spot a lot of selfmate miniatures recently in various competitions, 319 is typical specimen.

Solution:
1.Jh2+ Kh4 2.Dg5+ Kh3 3.Dh5+ Kg3 4.Dg4+ Kf2 5.Dg2+ Sxg2#

1.Jg1+ K~ 2.Dd4+ Kg3 3.Ve3+ Kf2 4.Ve2+ Kg3 5.Vg2+ Sxg2#.

Echo mates, change of Q/R sacrifices.

320 Pat a Mat 24 - April 1999

Comment on original for solving:
320 has only one variation, but it can prepare hard minutes for our solvers.

Solution:
1.Vf7 Sg5 2.Jg3+ fxg3 3.Jh2+ gxh2 4.Vxf5+ Sf4 5.De3 d2 6.Sc3 dxc1~ 7.Df3+ Sxf3#

Exact manoeuvre leading to mate after unpin of mating black bishop by Black. Position seems to call for better use of promoted piece.
